A yellow-framed SAS Cargo label with boxes for the air waybill number, already filled with the airline prefix 117, plus destination, number of pieces, weight and up to three transfer stations. Labels like this rode on every piece of a shipment so it could be matched to its paperwork. SAS was founded in 1946 by the airlines of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and freight was part of the business from the start: in 1946-47 it set a record for the heaviest single piece of cargo flown across the Atlantic on a scheduled passenger airliner.
