Four slanting stripes in red, yellow and blue lead into bold italic SAS lettering on a white strip. Scandinavian Airlines System was founded on 1 August 1946 as a partnership of the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian national airlines, and began flying that September. It went on to pioneer scheduled polar flying, opening a Copenhagen to Los Angeles route over the Arctic in 1954. Stickers like this were handed to passengers to put on their bags, spreading the logo through airports everywhere.
