This diamond-shaped sticker carries the SWAL initials in red, wrapped by a sweeping red crescent on a pale yellow ground. SWAL was the abbreviation of Nansei Koku, known in English as Southwest Air Lines, which was established in Okinawa in 1967 and flew across the Ryukyu island chain from its base at Naha. Despite the name, it had no connection with the American carrier Southwest Airlines. In July 1993 the company took the name Japan Transocean Air. Airlines handed out stickers like this one for passengers to put on their luggage.
