A bright red Swissair luggage label with ruled lines for name, address and phone, and a small printed reminder down the side asking passengers to attach the label and lock their luggage. Airlines handed these out so travelers could mark their bags and, in the process, carry the airline's name around the world. Swissair was formed on 26 March 1931 from the merger of Ad Astra Aero and Balair, and grew into Switzerland's national carrier with hubs at Zurich and Geneva before ceasing operations in 2002.
