This deep blue Swissair baggage tag carries the airline's lowercase wordmark beside the red square of the Swiss cross, complete with its little string loop. Tags like this were tied to bags at check-in and handed out to travelers. Swissair was founded on 26 March 1931 through the merger of Ad Astra Aero and Balair, and flew from hubs at Zurich and Geneva for seven decades. It ceased operations on 31 March 2002, when its former regional arm Crossair became Swiss International Air Lines and took over most of its routes and aircraft.
