An airliner sweeps across a glowing yellow globe set against a deep purple sky in this early-1950s poster for TAI, the Compagnie de Transports Aériens Intercontinentaux. Founded in 1946, TAI was one of France's principal long-haul carriers of the postwar years, linking Paris with Africa, Asia and the French Pacific. By the 1950s its fleet included Douglas DC-4 and DC-6 airliners, and in 1963 it merged with UAT to form UTA, which later became part of Air France. The poster's simple language of plane and planet summed up what the airline sold: the whole world, within reach.
