The island's famous Norfolk pine rises tall in this poster for Tasman Empire Airways Limited, set in the airline's own shade of teal. TEAL took over the Norfolk Island service from New Zealand's National Airways Corporation in 1952, adding the small Pacific island to a network that already linked New Zealand and Australia across the Tasman. TEAL had begun with a flying-boat service from Auckland to Sydney in April 1940 and went on to become Air New Zealand. Its 1950s posters are now collected by Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum.
