Printed in black on cream, this bilingual label reads Trans Canada Air Mail and Poste Aerienne Trans Canada above a finely drawn scene of the Lachine Canal, with a windmill, lock buildings and an aircraft passing overhead. Along the bottom: First Official Flight, Premier Vol Officiel, Montreal-Lethbridge. Trans-Canada Air Lines flew the first official transcontinental air mail in March 1939, with Lethbridge, Alberta, as a stop on the route between Montreal and Vancouver. Labels and covers like this were made to mark those inaugural flights and are prized today by air mail collectors.
