A TWA Lockheed Constellation, with its graceful triple tail, cruises over a sky-blue sticker lettered 'Fly TWA Constellation - Trans World Airline.' The singular 'Airline' is a clue to its age: TWA called itself Trans World Airline informally from 1946, before Transcontinental & Western Air officially became Trans World Airlines on May 17, 1950. By spring 1950 TWA operated 41 Constellations, and the elegant airliner became closely tied to the airline's image through that decade.
