A yellow roundel ringed in black, with a Ford Trimotor flying across the top, bold black TWA letters, The Lindbergh Line in script and Shortest Route Coast to Coast above the name Transcontinental and Western Air, Inc. The airline was formed in October 1930 when Transcontinental Air Transport, the Lindbergh-backed company that flew Trimotors, merged with Western Air Express. Its first all-air coast-to-coast service took 36 hours with an overnight stop in Kansas City. The name became Trans World Airlines in 1950.
