The green expanse of Central Park spreads out beneath the towers of Manhattan and a wide blue sky in this United Air Lines poster for New York. The artist is not recorded. Central Park, laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in the 1850s, made a natural subject for an airline selling the city from above: the view a traveler might catch while descending toward the city. United returned to the park several times in its New York posters, from postwar propeller-era designs to the widebody era of the 1970s.
