The artist is not recorded. The pressurized DC-6 had just joined United's fleet in 1947, and "Mainliner" was the airline's name for its flagship service, so the poster announces both a destination and a new, faster way to reach it. Liberty's torch, long a symbol of arrival in New York Harbor, now greeted travelers coming in by air.
