Yosemite Valley opens up in this 1945 United Air Lines poster, with the sheer granite face of El Capitan and the distinctive profile of Half Dome rising above the green valley floor. Dealer listings credit the painting to the Hungarian-born artist Joseph Feher (1908-1987), who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and went on to make many posters for United. Issued as World War II ended, the poster looked ahead to the return of leisure travel, when national parks like Yosemite were among the first places Americans wanted to see.
