Beneath the big blue letters VASP, a group of passengers crosses a sunlit yellow apron toward the cabin door of a silver airliner, its broad wing sweeping overhead against a blue sky. VASP, short for Viacao Aerea Sao Paulo, was established by the government of the state of Sao Paulo on 4 November 1933 and began flying eight days later with two small Monospar ST-4 aircraft. It went on to become one of Brazil's major airlines before it was grounded in 2005.
