Trans World Airlines’ Wings of Pride MD-83 was an aircraft paid for by the employees of the airline as a sign of their commitment to the company. The striking aircraft was painted in the inverse of the then-current TWA colors. Instead of a white fuselage with red stripes, the aircraft featured a red fuselage with white stripes. EI-BWD was later repainted into TWA’s final colors in the mid-1990s as N948TW, with special stickers. Later, after the purchase of TWA by American Airlines, she was anonymously folded into the American fleet. It was recently announced that she has been purchased by a Kansas City museum and will be repainted in her Wings of Pride colors.
